A Decade of Adventures, Pets and Lasting Connections

At Mindahome, we’re proud to share the journeys of our community members—like Anica, who has shown dedication and care in house and pet sitting for over a decade. Since our beginnings in 2008, Mindahome has grown into a trusted and friendly network for sitters and homeowners. Anica’s experience reflects the spirit of house sitting. If you enjoy reading her story, you can discover more about this pet sitters approach and availability in her profile here.

Anica’s journey began with the loss of a beloved cat. Rather than rush into getting another pet, she chose to share her love of animals in a different way—through pet sitting.
“I wasn’t ready at the time to have another pet of my own. Pet minding gave me a great opportunity to share my love for animals, while providing homeowners with peace of mind.”
Since joining Mindahome in 2015, she has cared for countless pets and properties. Her journeys have taken her all over WA, QLD and NSW, forging deep connections and earning the trust of many homeowners.

Her very first assignment started on her birthday in 2015:
“It was in a double-storey mansion with ocean views and two affectionate felines. What a wonderful start on my journey!”
That birthday gift became the beginning of a decade-long story of care, trust, and adventure.

House sitting has evolved rapidly over the past decade, especially following the challenges of the Covid pandemic.
“It became a lot more competitive, particularly after Covid and the ensuing rental crisis in WA!”
Through these changes, Anica has continued to thrive while Mindahome has remained focused on making things smoother for both sitters and homeowners—rolling out new website features and a mutual review system. The focus remains on building trust and rewarding experiences.

Over the years, Anica has cared for pets in all kinds of homes and situations.
“There have been so many genuinely rewarding experiences. The most heart-warming ones were when I became so close to some of the pets that the goodbyes were very emotional.”
She has also taken unexpected moments in stride, from dealing with tradesmen for repairs to arriving at houses she hadn’t seen in advance. For Anica, every sit is unique, shaped by the personalities of both pets and their owners.

One of the most special aspects of house sitting for Anica is the lasting relationships she’s built—both furry and human. Multiple repeat sits have allowed her to become a familiar face in certain homes.
“Amongst many others, a little Burmese cat and a little Moodle in particular, still hold a special place in my heart”.
These enduring bonds are what make house sitting such a rich and rewarding lifestyle.

Anica’s creative approach has made her profile one of the most eye-catching on Mindahome.
“My advert reads like a ‘wanted poster’—clever and eye-catching! I make the effort to stand out, and it works most of the time!”
She prefers to share most photos of pets on her profile, believing the animals should be the stars. Privacy is important to her, though she enjoys exchanging photos and videos with owners to keep them connected while they’re away.

Advice from Anica if you would like to be a pet sitter

Over the years, Anica has noticed a growing issue: homeowners not always updating their listings after a sitter has been found.
“When a sitter applies for a listing that is already filled, and there is no reply or acknowledgement from the owner, it is frustrating and time-consuming. Even a standard response helps. And please remove the ad once the sit is filled!”
It is a respectful reminder that sitters also invest their time, flexibility and energy, often travelling to unfamiliar places and living alone with limited social contact.

Anica recently celebrated her 10-year anniversary with Mindahome, and just like her first sit, it coincided with her birthday.
“Had someone told me in the beginning that ten years later I would still be doing this, I would not have believed them.”Looking ahead, she keeps it simple: “I go with the flow and embrace my adventures. I am looking forward to more rewarding sits, happy pets, and helping homeowners enjoy their holidays with peace of mind.”

Anica’s story is a beautiful example of what house sitting can offer—not only for homeowners and pets, but for the sitters themselves. Her care, compassion, and commitment over the past 10 years have left a trail of paw prints across WA, Qld, and NSW, leaving a lasting impression on the Mindahome community.
Anica’s dedication and enthusiasm are an inspiration to us all at Mindahome. Her journey is a testament to the trust, care, and community that have been at our heart since 2008.
